DOĞUŞ RECEIVES AWARD FROM CROATIA

This year's recipient of the Croatian state medal given to businesspeople who have made the most contribution to Croatia's economy was Doğuş Group President Ferit Şahenk. Şahenk received his medal from Croatian President of the Republic Ivo Josipovic.

Doğuş Group President Ferit Şahenk received one of the most prestigious state recognitions in Croatia.

The "Star of Croatia" medal is given to persons who have made significant contributions to the economy of the nation. The Doğuş Group has marina and hotel investments in Croatia.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Josipovic said, "This award is a symbol of the friendship between Turkey and Croatia. We are proud to be receiving investments from Turkish businesses."

"WE SUPPORT YOUR EU MEMBERSHIP"

Croatia has been the 28th Member State of the European Union since last year.

In an interview to NTV after the ceremony, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic promised his support for accession negotiations: "I believe that Turkey belongs in Europe. It is our state policy to support Turkey's membership. Our harmonization with the European Union was easier because of our relatively low population. The most critical aspect of the accession procedure is implementing the reforms required by the EU, and Turkey has the strength to complete these."

The Croatian state medal was previously received by Turkish businesspeople Şarık Tara, Ekrem Deniz and Çelik Kurtoğlu.
