THE FESTIVAL DID THE HONORS NEARLY 600 ARTISTS AND 21,500 AUDIENCES WITHIN 7 CONCERTS.

 

D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival, which is organized under the founding sponsorship of Doğuş Group and Artistic Direction undertaken by Yücel Canyaran, met the audiences on July 31st and August 1st, August 2nd, and August 3rd 2014 in Bodrum, and offered classical music lovers a rich repertoire from valuable artists on its 10th year. In D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival, staging a total of seven concerts over four days, Presidential State Orchestra (CSO) under the direction of conductor Naci Özgüç accompanied world-renowned pianist and composer Fazıl Say at the opening concert. The world premiere of Fazıl Say's latest work "Hermias-The Boy on the Dolphin's Back" inspired by the melancholic story of the Myth of Hermias was realized at D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival.

10th D-Marin Turgutreis Festival continued to host world's musical giants on the second, third and fourth evenings of the festival. On the second evening of the festival, the combined orchestra comprised of Doğuş Kids Symphony Orchestra (DKSO); Turkey's first and only national children's symphony orchestra and Presidential Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Rengim Gökmen, accompanied young soloists of the DKSO in the first part and famous tenors Şenol Talınlı, Ayhan Uştuk and Aykut Çınar also known as "3 Tenors" in the second part of the concert. The festival hosted world-renowned violin artist Vanessa Mae accompanying by Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Oğuzhan Balcı, on the evening of Saturday August 2nd. The festival made the closing with Moscow Symphony Russian Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Sergey Tararin accompanying world famous Argentinian tenor Jose Cura and the winner of 2012 Leyla Gencer Voice

Contest Egyptian Soprano Fatma Said who was greatly acclaimed by the audiences last year at the sunset stage of the festival.

D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival organized with the goal of contributing to the development of classical music and bringing Turkish and foreign visitors together around the universal values of classical music in Bodrum; one of Turkey's most important tourism centers, met again with music lovers with participation from world famous artists on July 31st, 1st, 2nd and 3rd of August. Admitted to the European Festivals Association (EFA) in 2009 and with Yücel Canyaran undertaking its Artistic Direction, D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival hosted prominent names of classical music this year as well. Having reached more than 160.000 people so far with participation from over 3600 artists, the festival presented a long lasting program for music lovers just as always.

D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival hosted the World Premiere of Fazıl Say's Latest Work

Bringing together lovers of classical music at sunset and evening concerts, the festival hosted world-renowned pianist Fazıl Say. The World Premiere of "Hermias-The Boy on the Dolphin's Back" that Say composed inspired by the Myth of the Dolphin and Hermias, took place at D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival. The mythological story tells the friendship between a boy, who got lost after going swimming with his friends in the Güllük Gulf and a dolphin, which presumably saved him by taking him on his back. At the end of the story the lifeless bodies of these two friends are encountered but one can see how happy they were from their faces. Fazıl Say's new work "Hermias-The Boy on the Dolphin's Back" inspired by this melancholic mythological story, met classical music lovers for the first time on July 31st.

The Presidential Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Naci Özgüç accompanied Fazıl Say at the Festival's Gala Concert. Selçuk Yöntem narrated the work scripted by playwright Özen Yula inspired by the Myth of Hermias. Serenad Bağcan and a child soloist from the Vienna's famous children choir "Die Wiener Sängerknaben" were also on stage...

On the second evening of the Festival, one of world's long established orchestras; the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) took stage together with Turkey's first national children's symphony orchestra; Doğuş Kids Symphony Orchestra (DKSO). The orchestra under the direction of conductor Rengim Gökmen performed with DKSO soloists in the first part of the concert, and accompanied the tenors Aykut Çınar, Ayhan Uştuk and Şenol Talınlı also known as the Three Tenors of Turkey in the second part of the concert.

In addition to her title of classical music artist with a bestselling album, Vanessa-Mae who is also one of the most beautiful 50 people according to The People magazine in USA, met with music lovers on the third night of the festival…

Famous musician Vanessa-Mae, who began playing the violin at the age of six, started playing with London Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten and released her first album titled "Violin" at the age of twelve. Mae, shared the stage with Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Oğuzhan Balcı which celebrating its 15th year of foundation. The artist brought new interpretations to classical works makes a distinguished name for herself with her unique arrangements.

In the Closing Concert of D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival, world renowned Argentinian tenor Jose Cura and Egyptian soprano Fatma Said took stage accompanied by the Moscow Symphony Russian Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Sergey Tararin's direction. Acclaimed by classical music lovers for her performance at the sunset concert of the 9th D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival following her win of the 2012 Leyla Gencer Voice Contest, Egyptian soprano Fatma Said addressed classic music lovers for the second time under the scope of the festival.

A musical farewell to the day with the sunset recitals…

This year there was a total of seven concerts including the sunset recitals and evening concerts at the festival, which is the first and only classical music festival in the world to take place in a marina. The sunset recitals followed closely by classical music lovers listened free of charge at the amphitheater inside the marina on the second, third, and last day of the festival at 7 pm. On Friday August 1st flutist Bülent Evcil and harpist Çağatay Akyol were on stage at the first sunset recital. On the second sunset recital of the festival on Saturday August 2nd, 'George Sand and Chopin Preludes' Project were on stage with Meltem Cumbul's voice and Şevki Karayel's interpretation on the piano; bringing of George Sand's works and Chopin's preludes to audiences. On the last sunset concert realized on Sunday, August 3rd in Memory of Leyla Gencer; Soprano Eylem Demirhan Duru performed accompanied by famous pianist Demet Eytemiz.

All proceeds from the sale of festival tickets donated to Tohum Autism Foundation and Bodrum Health Foundation this year as well

Doğuş Group in order to support the development of culture and arts in Turkey realizes various projects that create continuity. Doğuş Group established the first national children's symphony orchestra; The Doğuş Kids Symphony Orchestra and realized the restoration of the concert hall of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and acts as its main sponsor. Since 2009 as a part of this sponsorship, it also takes the orchestra to state universities in Anatolian Cities where the orchestra has never visited hence promote classical music to university students and locals under the Symphonic Evenings at the Campus Project.

Support for social responsibility realized through proceeds from the concerts is continued on a local and international level. All proceeds from the sale of The 10th D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival tickets were donated to Tohum Autism Foundation and Bodrum Health Foundation this year as well.

D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music has been organized every year since 2005 at the D-Marin in Turgutreis under the founding sponsorship of the Doğuş Group to help promote classical music in Turkey and to bring it to wider audiences and facilitate Turkish artists in producing world-class achievements. The festival venues at a marina, is the first and only one of its kind. The festival consisting of a total of seven concerts including sunset and evening concerts over four days retains its distinctive place in Turkey by featuring nothing but classical music. Reaching audiences of 7,000 people in its first year, 12,000 people in its second, 13,500 people in its third, and 14,100 people in its fourth, the festival was admitted to the European Festivals Association (EFA) in its fifth year drawing 15,000 people. Interest in the festival kept growing with 17,250 and 18,000 people in its sixth and seventh years respectively. The festival audiences reached 20,500 and 21,000 people at its eighth and ninth years. The festival organized for the tenth time in 2014, reached 21,500 people. The festival won the "Classical Music Event of the Year Award" at the 2012 Donizetti Classical Music Awards organized by the Andante magazine and "Regional Special Award" at the Skalite Awards in the same year. The goal is to create a growing interest in the festival in the years to come, thereby helping classical music reach wider audiences and to bring international artists and orchestras together with Turkish audiences.
